So last quarter in one of my classes, a teacher made the entire class enter this art contest one of are local, and very well known, free art magazines was having. I had already planned on entering but I couldn't find the free time to do so, so the fact that I had actual class time to do it was awesome.
So I entered, and waited....and waited...and waited, and I finally got the call that I had been one of the lucky 5 to be picked as a winner. Now to some it wasn't that big of a deal and they honestly didn't really even wanna win, they entered because it was require, but to me it was a big deal. Because yes I am going to school as a photographer but I am so much more than that, I am an artist. I accept and practice all forms of art, painting, photography, sculpture. And this was me finally making my premier as an artist. My painting was going to be out there for the world to see. It was a big deal to me
Then last Thursday, July 26th, the box was finally presented and it was awesome. Me and my family arrivved at the event first and the reaction I got from my box was awesome, so many people telling me they loved it and that it was their favorite. The publisher for the magazine loved it so much that she refused to let any other form of advertisements be put on my box like all the other ones had.
But then the real cherry on top of the already perfect evening was when the creative director offered to buy the painting that my box was based off of.
WHOA!
Lets step back a minute
You
Want to buy
MY PAINTING?
Yes! Yes! Yes! Its yours take it!
I mean WHOA, that is a big deal for me. People had always said they liked my paintings or drawings and they wanted them and I just gave them to them because it was no big deal and plus they are my friends, but this complete stranger, wanted to buy my painting.
It was like look out art world here I am!
And what really made me extremely happy was the fact that my parents finally saw me as an artist. They have always supported me in everything I do, but really, they never accepted it as art, it was always just something I did on the side. But they finally got to see that people love what I do, that other people see me as an artist and that my work is good enough for someone to buy.
All in all I am extremely happy with the way things turned out, and Congratulations to all of the other winners as well
Other Winners: Tiffany Dyer, Bryanna Dobbins, Sonny Benton, Rod Burch.
